There is no need to go to the trouble and expense of completing the full Self-Employment Supplementary pages (SA103F) and detailing all your expenses if your self-employment turnover is less than the VAT registration threshold (£79,000 for 2013/14)
You can complete the short Self-Employment Supplementary pages (SA103s; available on the HMRC website atwww.hmrc.gov.uk/forms/sa103s.pdf) instead. This form is only two pages long and saves time byallowing you to enter your total expenses in box 19 rather than providing details of specific expenses.
HMRC have issued briefer easy to read notes for the key Tax Return pages for 2012/13 returns including SA103s which ought to be helpful for you.
